Brigitte Puschmann NL Stripes Series - The transformation of the line into a surface
The "NL Stripes" series—"NL" standing for Next Level—deals with a seemingly simple question: What happens when a line grows? When does it become a shape, and what occurs during this transition?
This group of works is an exploratory journey through exactly this moment of transformation—without losing the magic of the core principles that support my entire body of work.
From rhythm to space
Where my earlier striped paintings thrive on the rhythm of the lines, the NL works open up into the surface: fields of color gain weight, the spaces between become independent actors, and the composition begins to breathe. The affinity with color field painting is intentional – but unlike classical color field painting, my surfaces remain in motion. They speak of their origin as lines and visibly carry the transformation within them.
Within the series, groups of works such as Resonance, Core, and History Reloaded emerge, each exploring individual aspects of this transformation in greater depth. The question of the permanence of such visual solutions leads directly to my Timeless series .
